We believe that education in a democracy should provide the opportunity and the stimulus for maximum personal growth and self-fulfillment, and it should ensure that all students are prepared for responsible citizenship, further learning, and productive employment in a rapidly changing society and world.

Home of the Hilltoppers, Summit High School offers a comprehensive, well-rounded, and rigorous education to students in grades 9-12. According to U.S. News & World Report, Summit High School ranks in the top 4% of Best New Jersey High Schools, and top 3% of Best U.S. High Schools in 2021. Students have more than 260 courses to choose from, including core subjects, World Language, Visual and Performing Arts, Career-Technical Education, and Financial, Economic, Business and Entrepreneurial Literacy. Courses are taught by a team of dedicated and passionate educational professionals. There are 150 full-time faculty members; more than 75% have graduate degrees.

In the Class of 2022, nearly 92% of the 288 Summit High School graduates were pursuing higher education directly after graduation. 78% of our 46 self-reported First Generation College Students were pursuing higher education. Summit High School’s Class of 2022 achieved an average SAT score of 1299, an average ACT score of 26, and average GPA of 3.774. In 2021, more than 170 students were designated as an AP Scholar, AP Scholar with Honors, AP Scholar with Distinction, or AP International Diploma.

Beyond the traditional college, we are proud to see our graduates attend international schools and programs, pursue career education, and join the Military. Our shared-time Union County Vocational/Technical School students graduate directly to a career, or to a two or four year college pathway. 

In addition to academic excellence, Summit High School prides itself on a wide range of co-curricular and athletic opportunities. Students have more than 40 co-curricular activities to choose from, including an award-winning Performing Arts department and Forensics Team. Summit High School offers 30 varsity sports, many of which consistently win conference, county, sectional, or group championships.
