The mission of the Summit Public Schools Library Media program is to provide students with the necessary skills to become ethical global citizens by promoting educational inquiry and critical thinking, developing responsible consumers and producers of information, and fostering a life-long love of reading and learning. In order to achieve these goals at the high school level, students receive instruction on the following topics:

  • Research and the research process
    • Understanding the research process (Guided Inquiry Model)
    • Accessing and evaluating information on databases and on the internet
    • Advanced research techniques (ex. citation chaining and advanced Google searching)
  • Information and News Literacy (including mis/disinformation)
  • Independent reading
    • Helping to develop independent reading habits

In addition to teaching classes, the High School librarians help students individually before and after school, as well as throughout the day.
