Commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging

In accordance with one of the District's 2020-2021 goals, 'Summit Public Schools will establish a more global, culturally inclusive instructional program which includes the ongoing development and implementation of anti-bias training for the students and staff, as well as the evaluation and revision of current curricula and programs, as part of a multi-year initiative', and a 2021-2022 goal, 'The Summit Public Schools will continue to foster a culturally inclusive educational environment that values diversity and equity within its climate, operations, curricula, and programs', the District has implemented the following:

  • Community Partnerships: Interfaith Council and Summit Anti-Racism Committee

  • Professional Development on Anti-Bias

  • Creation of District BrainTrust

  • Consultations with Columbia University Professor

  • Staff survey

  • =ABC, an equity and anti-bias collective

  • An audit of ELA curriculum and revamped grades 6-8

  • Revised K-12 Social Studies scope and sequence

  • Race and the American Experience Course Proposal at Summit High School

Summit Public Schools seeks to continue its momentum toward the identification of marginalized groups within the community and functioning from an asset based perspective.
